A Journey into Self - Introduction into Energy

by Tash Mitch / Chi Philosophy

During my walk as a therapist in body and energy work, I find myself continuously talking about the concept of energy and how it affects us physically, mentally and emotionally. 'A Journey into Self' is an eight week series that will focus on energy and the seven energetic centres in the body, it will look at the ways we communicate with each other through these centres and how we can enhance our energy to aid us in all aspects of our lives. For this the first week of 'A Journey Into Self' we will be introducing energy.

What is energy?

Have you ever walked into a room and instantly felt that you belonged there? Had you been having a bad day and just one smile from a stranger passing by made you feel better? Has holding the hand of some one you love ever given you the courage to be a lot stronger than you thought you were? If you have ever felt any of these things you have felt energy. Energy is given form through our thoughts and communicated through our feelings.

How does energy operate?

There is a saying, 'To those who have, more shall be given, and to those who have not, even the little that they have will be taken away.' Normally we look at this saying and associate it with money or possessions. However if we look a little deeper we will see that it gives us a formula for using our energy. The more energy we put into something the more it grows, if we focus less energy onto the same thing very soon it withers away and disappears.

Taking this a step further, when it comes to energy, like attracts like. If something amazing happens to you, you may decide to tell the story to as many people as possible. Pretty soon you will come into contact with people who share a similar story to yours and think that what has happened to you is great. You will both interact with each other from the same level of feeling and will leave the interaction on a buzz and with a smile. Likewise you may come across people who are having a bad day that day, or just don't have a life experience that is as beautiful as the one you had, they may find your story highly annoying and may even tell you to shut up. They will find it hard to be around you and will look for people who understand them better to communicate with.

What does energy mean to me in my day to day life?

When you become conscious of energy you become aware of a few things.

  • Firstly you know that your thoughts are very creative, so you pay more attention to what you are saying to yourself. You realise that the more focus you give to a thought, the more creative it becomes.
  • Secondly you gain a better understanding of yourself by the things you are attracting to you. When you find a life full of things that are unsatisfactory, you know that you are off centre, you then look at the areas you need to change.
  • Thirdly you pay more attention to how you are feeling, because you understand that this will tell you exactly what type of energy you are dealing with in any given situation. The trick here is not to disregard or belittle your feelings because these are a powerful tools and offer you a great gift of knowing where you are at any given moment.
  • Fourthly you become aware of the fact that you are constantly affecting the world with your energy. The question then becomes, do I want this effect to be positive or negative?
