Journey Into Self
By Tash Mitch

Heart Energy

Colour Association - Green

While all the energetic systems are unique and vibrate with their own importance and power, the heart is a very dominant factor. The heart is described as the gateway between the spiritual and the physical. Nothing can enter the spiritual plane from the physical, be it prayer, worship, communication, requests, thanksgiving etc. without the power of the heart behind it. Likewise nothing can enter the physical plane from the spiritual be it inspiration, thoughts, guidance, understanding, knowledge without first passing thorough and having the agreement of the heart. We as humans have an intrinsic understanding of the power of love, we know that love holds the key to everything, hence the endless songs, books, poems, speeches that have been dedicated to love.

Heart Centre Issues

It always fascinates me that the heart centre follows on from our solar plexus. This is not a coincidence. In order to really understand what love means we must first have an understanding of our selves and our power. It is not easy to love another, if you don't really respect and love who you are.

In real terms, if our solar plexus is overactive, it will lead us to 'bulldoze' the person we love. We aim to control by love, their opinions and feelings don't matter, because 'we know best'. We are deeply offended if the person we love strays from our definition of what is best for them. If solar plexus is under active we live in awe of our lover, in essence we say to our lover, 'you are far more worthy than I am, therefore take all my power and use it as you see fit.' Meanwhile on a deeper level, we are appalled by our lack of respect for our own self. Balanced solar plexus means we come together as equals, having an understanding of the unique and beautiful aspects we have to give and receive within the relationship.

I use the term 'lover' but this word can be replaced by anything we say we love.

Too Much Heart

Too much heart leads to fanaticism. In this case we tune out everything else and the object of our affection, love, desire is all we see. When this happens we somehow get stuck in our heart energy, opportunities come and go but we remain oblivious to them. Our friends and people close to us may try to communicate with us or simply try to get our attention but all we hear are words the meaning is completely lost. We are lost in love.

When the subject we love so much is termed worthy and good, we are applauded, we make strong headways in our field, however without balance, something would have paid the price, be it our time to get to know ourselves, our time with our family and friends, our time to gain an understanding of the world we live in.

Alternatively when our hearts desire is not in line with our highest good, we are in grave danger of going completely around the bend. Until we are able to detach, we are on a totally different planet. Often times when we do manage to detach, we never want to see love again, love becomes something to be feared and avoided. We then need to journey toward the understanding that it was our imbalance and not love that caused us pain.

Too Little Heart

With not enough heart, there is no real impetus behind our actions. We do what we have to do but no more. If we could get away from even doing what we really feel we must, we would. Without heart there is no motivation, inspiration or passion. Instead there is obligation, resistance and reluctance.

The phrase 'the devil finds work for idle hands' readily springs to mind here. We as human beings resent having to do something that we have no desire to do. This resentment plays out in unhappy ways, we gossip, we over indulge, we judge, we lack compassion, we lack love. The way we try to make ourselves feel better is to make ourselves feel above some one else. What we are really saying is 'I do not feel love, I do not feel worthy of love, but I am worthy of love, because I am better than this person or that person.'

It is only through knowledge of self we can understand what love really means and what it is we really love. Up until that point we are searching for a needle in a dark football field.

Heart and the Body

The heart centre resides under the sternum in the middle of the chest. When out of balance it leads to asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, lung disease.

Balancing the Heart

I recently read somewhere that you can't search for love, love has to be discovered. This is a profound statement because it says that we can't make love happen, love will unveil itself to us. In order to balance the heart we first of all need to:

  • Have a good working knowledge of who we are.
  • We must be able to respect, trust and love the person that we are.
  • When our heart opens, we naturally extend our love to our environment.
  • One of the greatest laws of the universe is that what we give out we get back. So in extending our love to our environment, we will have that love reflected back to us by our environment.
If you can love yourself unconditionally, you can love your family and friends unconditionally. If you can love your family and friends unconditionally, you can love your environment, space, place, unconditionally. If you can love your environment unconditionally, you can love the planet unconditionally. The seed first starts with loving yourself!
